Engineering

Introduction

The Engineering Services Department oversees and coordinates service area expansion,
construction and water main extension policies, and field inspection. Engineering staff process
water service applications and construction permits, maintain EWW facility records, and implement
the Cross Connection Control Program. Department staffers are available to meet with current
and potential customers and/or their agents to ensure they receive an acceptable level of
water service. Completed water service applications and general questions can be emailed to engineeringservices@eriewaterworks.org. Plumbers and Contractors can submit proposed work plans for approval and annual backflow test reports to backflowprevention@eriewaterworks.org.

Backflow Prevention / Cross Connection Control

Backflow is an undesired reversal in the normal direction of water flow. The normal direction is from the EWW water system to the customers; a backflow or cross connection would be from the customer to the EWW water system. EWW must protect the public water system and its Cross Connection Control Program empowers its staff to do so. The installation of an appropriate backflow preventer will protect the public water system from possible contamination.
