Water Works Continues Comprehensive Water System Maintenance

November 22, 2010

The Erie Water Works and its contractor, ValveTek Utility Services, will be initiating an important maintenance project on its water mains, valves and fire hydrants within portions of Southeast Erie, Wesleyville, and Harborcreek. These operations are being performed in order to enhance the water system. Valve and hydrant work was completed in August, September and October. Water main flushing is the final task and all flushing will begin at 10:00 PM and end by 5:00 AM the following day.

Water System Flushing will occur from November 28th to December 2nd in the following areas:
• Wesleyville – between Bird Drive and Riverside Drive from Pearl Avenue to East 26th Street
• Harborcreek – between Sterling Avenue and Depot Road from Buffalo Road to Markwood Drive.

Water System Flushing will occur from December 5th to December 22nd (weather permitting) in the following areas:
• City of Erie – between Glenwood Park Avenue and Davison Avenue from East 19th to East 38th Street.

EWW’s contractor, ValveTek, will provide notification through U.S. Mail or door hangers to affected customers 2 days in advance of flushing efforts. EWW will also be using a voice messaging system that will call your home or business 2 days prior to flushing in your area. Customers may experience some cloudiness in the water which is to be expected. The water is not harmful but should not be consumed or used for laundering without first running cold water from faucets until it becomes clear. A slop sink, outside spigot, or bath tub are the best locations to run cold water faucets. Customers should check the clarity of the water prior to laundering in order to prevent discoloration of clothing.

These efforts help EWW fulfill its mission, “To guarantee a continuous, uninterrupted, reasonably priced supply of quality water to its customers which assures public health while promoting regional stability and future development.”

Feel free to call the Customer Service Department at (814) 870-8000 if you have any questions regarding this project.
