2011 Comprehensive Maintenance – System Flushing Project Details

The Erie Water Works and its contractor, ValveTek Utility Services, have now completed an important maintenance project on its water mains, valves and fire hydrants within portions of Southwest Erie, central Millcreek, and a northern area of Summit Township. These operations were performed in order to enhance the water system. Work occurred between July and November 2011 in the following areas:
• City of Erie – between Pittsburgh Avenue and Peach Street from W. 20th Street to W. 36th Street
• Millcreek – between Sterrettania Road and Pittsburgh Avenue from W. 20th Street to W. 36th Street
• Millcreek – between Glade Drive and Old Perry Highway from W. 57th Street to South Hill Road
• Summit – between Kuntz Road and Old French Road from South Hill Road to Johnson Road

Part of the work included a “flushing” of the system to restore the capacity that was available at the time of water system construction. EWW notified customers 2 days in advance of these efforts through the use of informative telephone calls and ‘door hangers’. Very few customer issues were experienced. This proactive water system maintenance helps EWW fulfill its mission, “To guarantee a continuous, uninterrupted, reasonably priced supply of quality water to its customers which assures public health while promoting regional stability and future development.”
